Some projects are especially exciting. It might be the setting, the idea, or the chance to experiment with flowers, colours and materials we would not usually bring together. This one had a little of everything.
On 30 September 2026, BonBee created the floral design and arrangements for a gastronomic dinner at Casa Vicens, Antoni Gaudí’s first major work, in Barcelona’s Gràcia neighbourhood.
The event was part of Las Cinco Cantabrias On Tour, an initiative by Turismo de Cantabria introducing the region’s food and produce to cities across Spain. At BonBee, we had the chance to contribute our favourite part: the flowers.
The challenge? To create floral arrangements that suited Gaudí’s architecture, complemented the food and had a character of their own. And yes, we ended up using flowers, moss, lemons and even red peppers. Sometimes the best ideas come when you step a little outside the familiar.

A dinner bringing together Cantabrian cuisine and Gaudí’s architecture
Casa Vicens is no ordinary setting. Its walls, ceramics, colours and references to nature call for particular care when adding any decoration.
The event also had a lovely connection with the venue. Casa Vicens and El Capricho de Gaudí, in Comillas, Cantabria, share an architect and date from a similar period of his work. That link was the starting point for an experience bringing together architecture, place and food.
As reported by Who Are U Magazine in its preview of the event, the announced culinary line-up brought together Nacho del Corral, chef at DARIA; Carlos Arias, chef at Emma; and Inma Solana, sommelier and front-of-house manager at Solana restaurant.

Our floral arrangements needed to complement that idea. We wanted the arrangements to be part of the experience and to connect what guests saw on the table with what they were celebrating around it.
Flowers in terracotta, burgundy and orange: a palette for Casa Vicens
One of our first decisions was the colour palette. Casa Vicens has a strong visual character: its warm-coloured walls, ceramic details and combinations of colour create a setting that is already spectacular in its own right.
That is why we chose terracotta, burgundy and orange, with small touches of green. A palette that connected with the space without trying to compete with it.
We chose flowers with very different shapes and textures: copper-toned anthuriums, orange chrysanthemums, small burgundy flowers and varied foliage. We were especially interested in playing with height. Some flowers stood tall, almost floating above the rest of the arrangement, while others sat closer to the base.
The result was arrangements full of movement, with a slightly wild feel and an organic look. We wanted the flowers to seem as though they were growing freely, while placing every element with care.

Moss as part of the floral design
Moss was another key element. We used it at the base of several arrangements to add texture and create a visual link between the flowers and nature.
Paired with small metal containers, it created a contrast we loved: simple materials, greenery and richly coloured flowers. This combination works particularly well when creating floral decoration for events in Barcelona with a natural, contemporary and unconventional style.
Lemons, peppers and flowers: when decoration tells a story about food
One of our favourite parts of the project was bringing fresh produce into the decoration. We made arrangements with yellow lemons and eucalyptus branches, and others with red peppers and foliage.
The idea was to play with the event’s culinary theme. The lemons brought brightness and an intense yellow that contrasted with the venue’s terracotta tones. The peppers added a vivid red and sculptural shapes that worked surprisingly well as decoration.

These arrangements also had something we love: they were unexpected. We are used to seeing flowers on a table, but less used to finding a centrepiece made from lemons or peppers. That was precisely what made them catch the eye.
In floral design for events, we love exploring materials beyond traditional flowers, especially when they have a direct connection with the theme of the occasion.

Floral centrepieces that leave room for conversation
When we design flowers for a dinner, there is something we always keep in mind: people need to be able to talk to one another. A centrepiece that is too large or badly placed can get in the way during an event.
At Casa Vicens, we therefore worked with different formats. Some arrangements were taller and more prominent, while others were small floral touches spread across the tables.
Clear glass vessels added lightness, while arrangements with moss bases and metal containers introduced contrasting textures. Together, they created visual interest while leaving enough room for plates and glasses.
As much as we love flowers, we know that a dinner is also about enjoying the food and the company.
Behind the scenes: preparing the flowers before the event
There is a part of floral decoration that rarely appears in the finished photographs. And it is probably one of the most important.
Before the guests arrive, each arrangement needs preparing, heights adjusting, proportions checking and flowers placing to make sure everything works in the space. For this project, our team worked on site at Casa Vicens, preparing and finishing the floral pieces.

Surrounded by buckets, scissors, flowers and materials, we gradually brought the decoration together. We particularly love that moment when everything is still in progress, but you can already picture the finished setting.
And then come the final touches: moving a flower a few centimetres, adding a branch or shifting an arrangement slightly. They are small details, but they can make a big difference. There is far more work behind floral decoration for events than meets the eye, and we love being able to share that side of the process too.
Floral design for events in Barcelona: a different approach for every space
One of the things we enjoy most about our work is that no two events are alike. We might prepare flowers for a gastronomic dinner, a product launch, a corporate event, an opening or a private celebration. But the starting point is always different.
Designing an arrangement for a contemporary restaurant is different from creating one for a Modernista building. Working for a brand with a minimalist identity is different from preparing a celebration full of colour, too.
That is why we like to approach each BonBee project from scratch. First, we get to know the space, the concept and the event’s needs. Then we choose the flowers, colours, shapes and materials that fit best. Finally, we work to make them all come together.
At Casa Vicens, architecture and food were our two main sources of inspiration. For another project, it might be a brand’s identity, a season or a combination of colours.
A special floral project in the heart of Barcelona
Working at Casa Vicens was one of those experiences that reminds us why we love working with flowers. Creating arrangements for such an iconic space, taking part in Las Cinco Cantabrias On Tour and connecting both worlds through decoration was a wonderful creative challenge.

What stays with us is the colour, the texture, the flowers mixed with lemons and peppers, the team working among the arrangements and the satisfaction of seeing everything come together.
That is what we aim for when designing flowers for an event: a result that fits the place, the people and the occasion. Even if the flowers are only there for a few hours, we hope they help make that moment a little more special.
