The best flowers for a pet friendly home

roses home

Publication: Sep 21, 2021

So you love flowers and animals and you have a pet at home with an unstoppable sense of curiosity and a great desire to bite and eat these appetizing and colorful plants. We completely understand you, because the same thing happens to us every day!

Before you start buying your dream flowers and decorating your apartment with them, you should keep in mind that not all of them are good and safe for the health of your dog or cat. And, since our furry friends are part of the family and we want them to be healthy and safe, we leave you in this article a small list on what are some of the safest flowers for pets.

Make a note of this list of safe flowers for your pet!

It is not about not buying flowers, not at all! But, as specialists in them and also as animal lovers, we do not want to miss the opportunity that gives us this little window that is our blog to inform you about it.

Here is your list, and there are many more flowers! If you have any questions, you know that you can ask us anything you want in our communication channels and we will be happy to help you.

Classic and beautiful, roses please everyone and, fortunately, they are safe flowers for animals. Just make sure they don't bite the thorns, we don't want to have any trouble!

  • Sunflowers

This beauty of a flower is totally safe for dogs and cats, so you can continue to enjoy its joy at home until your pet takes a nibble, of course!

  • Zinnias

How beautiful, how much color and how lucky that you can have them at home without worrying about your pet eating them!

  • Orchids

These flowers come in a large number of varieties, including hybrids. They are generally non-toxic, however we recommend that you specifically ask about the one you are taking home to be sure, as some varieties cause gastrointestinal problems in kittens.

  • African Violets

Their variety of colors makes them so beautiful that it's no wonder our animals want to take a bite out of them. Don't worry, if you have African violets, they are not poisonous to them.

Tricks to prevent (or at least try to prevent!) your pet from eating your plants

How to prevent our dogs and cats from eating flowers is difficult. If your dog or cat gets between antlers that he wants to take a bite of your bouquet of flowers, he will surely go crazy until he gets it. But don't worry, because there are a few ways you can try to keep them from eating your plants and flowers (let us know if you're lucky!):

  • Place flowers in rooms to which your pets do not have access.
  • Place them in high or secluded places (although if you have a kitten it won't be a big problem for it...).
  • Place your flowers in hanging pots (let's hope your kitty isn't too crafty!).

Don't be scared or discouraged. Most animals, when they try and don't succeed (or when they have already taken their first bite), lose interest. Let them smell them, for sure they will be delighted to have a little bit of countryside at home.

At BonBee we are very lucky to be able to work with our passion and if, in addition, we make our customers and whoever they decide to entertain with our floral arrangements happy to see, smell and touch, we feel more than fortunate! If you have any questions about the best plants and flowers to have at home if you have pets, do not hesitate to contact us.
